Reading Expedition Collection

FTD is one the biggest and most relevant education companies in Brazil. In 2018, they developed a new proposal for teaching English in Primary Schools that’s focused on stimulating the habit of reading for pleasure. The Expedition Collection helps teachers and students to dive into a universe of knowledge and adventure, leaving the traditional structures from textbooks behind aiming towards a more playful and interactive format.

Megalo was invited to develop this challenging project that resulted in kits designed for students and teachers that promote extensive reading in English. More than a graphic project, we needed to create a concept that unified the 5 volumes in the collection.

Our idea was to create a universe to be explored by the students, inviting them to explore 5 planets where the stories take place. The first step was to come up with a character that evolves along with the students to carry them through this journey and then stimulate their creativity by introducing them in these worlds.

What we did

Hello, my name is Robby!

I was programmed to explore distant and unfamiliar worlds. My journey brought me to the Reader’s Galaxy, and I made many friends here who came along with me in great adventures.

Always ready for the next adventure

Reader’s Galaxy taught me a lot. I’ve traveled through 5 very strange planets, each with its own inhabitants, history, colors and landscape. During my adventure, I evolved to navigate in every one of these different and faraway places!

Reader’s Galaxy

I’ve traveled in a fantastic galaxy with unique planets with incredible characters.

A comprehensive editorial project

The Reading Expedition collection was developed and designed to stimulate children’s imagination with a captivating story that is in sync with the context they are in.

Once the purpose was to deliver a graphic project that captivates students’ interest and make them interact with the content, the planets become more complex as the English level progresses – the same happens to Robby: the gear he acquires throughout his journey increase his ability to explore increasingly exotic planet were created to stimulate the children to start and finish new stages, awarding the conclusion of each stage.

Each of the 5 volumes for the students is made up by an Adventure Guide for the Family, the Adventure Log for students to write down what they learned in their reading and an interactive activity book to be used with stickers and cut-offs, which enrich their learning, besides classic tales according to the student’s level.

The teachers get a box with all of the books, a guide that gives directions on how to use this material, the Expeditioner map that details the contents to be taught in each level, Flashcards for the classroom and a guide called Tracing the path for each classic tale with lessons and specific activities for each class in this project.

Interactivity

We developed stickers and cut-off material to stimulate the student’s creativity, giving an incentive to the interaction with the books by personalizing it and creating a fun and unique reading experience.
